Mutual Funds increase portfolio in Mid and Small-cap Stocks

Indian Mutual Fund industry has witnessed a rally over the last few months. During that time, MF schemes also observed increased investment scales in Mid and Small-cap Stocks. As of the source, overall equity AUM of Mid-cap stocks and Small-cap stocks increased by 19% and 10%, respectively.

On the other hand, the large-cap category stocks equity AUM decreased by 71%.

According to the source, the equity-oriented category witnessed net outflows over the last eight months. From March 2020, these two categories posted a remarkable recovery. Moreover, those performed well at their large-cap counterparts.

Furthermore, Nifty Midcap 100 TRI raised 11.40% and Nifty Small-cap 100 TRI increased 17.40%, while Nifty 50 TRI raised 6% over the last three months.

Besides, a number of funds raised exposure to the mid and small-cap stocks. As of the source, of the total MF investment universe of 520 small-cap stocks, schemes increased allocation to 289 stocks. Of 150 mid-cap stocks, MFs increased allocation to 70 stocks.

One of the officials at the MF industry said that these two categories of Indices performed well against large-cap indices in the last year.
